WASHINGTON -- Congressman Alan B. Mollohan announced that a $500,000 grant he inserted in an appropriations bill to help Rowlesburg upgrade its water system has become law.
The grant will help Rowlesburg finance a new generator for its water treatment plant and replace sections of water line along Cemetery Road, Chestnut Street, Felty Hill, and Walnut Street. The existing lines have been severely damaged by repeated floods, leading to water losses of 67 percent or more. “When Mayor Banister first contacted me about this project, I immediately saw how important it was to the community, and I was pleased to support it with federal funding,” Mollohan said. Rowlesburg Mayor Barbara Banister is leading local efforts in support of the project. Mollohan, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, placed the grant in the annual funding bill for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The President signed the bill into law on Friday, clearing the way for the delivery of funds sometime this fiscal year. When completed, the project will improve service for approximately 320 households and bring the system into compliance with the Public Service Commission’s mandate on reducing water loss. |
