Canaan Valley Wastewater Treatment Projected Funded PDF Print E-mail
Congressman Alan B. Mollohan announced that a $4,000,000 Economic Development Administration grant is headed to the Canaan Valley Public Service District for construction of a new, decentralized wastewater treatment system.

“This announcement moves the project forward, no question about it,” said Mollohan. “The new system is central to our efforts to improve the quality of life for local residents, expand tourism and recreational opportunities throughout Tucker County, and improve water quality in the Upper Blackwater River.”

Mollohan had previously placed a total of $2.84 million in the 2005 and 2006 budgets for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help finance the project. The total cost is estimated at approximately $11.9 million.

By replacing 16 obsolete and privately-owned systems that were damaged in the 2008 flood, the new system will provide service to approximately 587 customers.

The Economic Development Administration projects that the project will create or retain 465 jobs in Tucker County.
