WASHINGTON -- Congressman Alan B. Mollohan sent a letter to the Postmaster General and the Pittsburgh District Manager expressing concerns that a study underway by the United States Postal Service (USPS) could lead to consolidation of some operations away from Wheeling and into Pittsburgh.
The USPS initiated an Area Mail Processing (AMP) study in late September. If the study concludes that some operations should be consolidated in Pittsburgh, 30 or more postal jobs could be relocated from the Wheeling area to Pittsburgh. In his letter to the Postmaster General, Mollohan emphasized the importance of those jobs to the local economy: “In light of the current economic conditions, I am fully committed to keeping as many jobs as possible in the First Congressional District of West Virginia.” Mollohan also expressed concern that a consolidation might disrupt postal service in the northern panhandle, noting that his constituents “rely on the USPS for a variety of services, including receiving their paychecks, mail-order prescriptions and business correspondence.” |
